Tim Cook Meets with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago

Apple CEO Tim Cook met with then President-elect Donald Trump on Friday night at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, according to a source familiar with the situation. This meeting followed a trend of business leaders seeking to build relationships with Trump after his November election victory.

Both Meta Platforms and Amazon contributed $1 million each to Trump’s inaugural fund. Bank of America, the second largest U.S. lender, also intended to donate but hadn’t finalized the amount. Trump officially took office in January.

During his presidential campaign in October, Trump mentioned receiving a call from Cook regarding concerns about the financial penalties imposed on Apple by the European Union.

European regulators have been actively investigating major tech companies in recent years, aiming to limit their influence and create a fairer competitive landscape for smaller businesses. In the U.S., a Justice Department case accused Apple of illegally monopolizing the smartphone market.

Neither Trump’s team nor Apple provided immediate comment when contacted. The New York Times was the first to report the meeting between Trump and Cook.
